But, assuming he wants to do more than just pull up standard codes...

I just did a search and found that a number of people here are using an Actron CP9110 for up '95, with the CP9150 kit, which has all the cables needed. I am not 100% sure on it all, but that seems to be correct. Also, it seems that you can often find these for reasonable $$ on ebay.

I've got a OTC Genisys to check those who want to come to my place. Little west of St. Louis.

Like Lash said, I got the Actron 9110 with the GM cartridge and made my own "special cable" for the 94-95 "hybrid" that uses an OBDII connector and OBDI protocol in the PCM. I got mine new on e-bay for under $100, and I am very happy with it.

It will not read OBDII however. There is a newer Actron model that will read 'em all, but does not have as many features as the old 9110.

Do a search under "scan tool" here - you will find a lot of references and links.

There is also the Actron CP9145 that will read the OBD1 on your car and also has the capability to read OBD2 with extra cables.

See here for info

Once you know what you want, check ebay and see if someone has one for sale first.
