How much higher combustion temps and what exactly is meant by detonation? I might think twice about waiting if it seriously affects performance and engine life.

I don't know how much higher temps (these are combustion temps we're talking about, not EC temps), but will loosely (factorially) affect EC temps as well. Detonation is knock. Pre-ignition. Bad stuff. That'* why PCM'* pull timing when the knock sensors detect it.

I'd drive it easy for a week like that, but I don't like the idea of running long-term without the EGR.
