406 EGR Pintle Position code
Can anyone tell me what could be wrong that is setting of the 406 EGR Pintle Position code? I've been getting it every ignition since it is turning on the CEL. Sometimes it sets the CEL immediately after I put it into OD, other times it comes on a few minutes after. There appears to be no trend when it comes on (i.e high speeds, braking, slow accel). Anyone else have this code, or knows anything about it that would be willing to help me? Thanks.

Hi fuddyduddy121, thanks for checking. It might be listed as 1406. My 95 bonnie is OBDI with an OBDII connector, but I'm unsure if it spits out OBDI style codes or OBDII.

You have the linear EGR valve. Sometimes they (and the digital valve, too) stick. Try to free it up. If that doesn't work, you'll be replacing it. Someone just had this last week, in concert with a failed tps as well.

It'* funny how these things happen at the same time.
The 94 and 95 codes should pretty much be the same.

first thing to check for........ remove the egr and see it there is a piece of carbon stuck in one of the valves in the egr. i do know that the chev 4.3 vortec if well known for this. and will definitly set an egr code.very cheap fix, the gasket should be reusable too

yup, that was me last week with 471.00 bill for a new EGR & TPS. I would try to clean it first if i were you, i wish i did but i didnt have time. while it was in the shop, i read up on it, it didnt seem that hard to clean it. I do have to say that the new on is much better looking! ITs little stockier and its coated with some kind of black paint or plastic.

Don't know if it will help or not but I found this on ebay. If it worked it would be well worth the money. It looks pretty clean.
