Just saw this thread. It'* very odd that you have a 2.93 gear ratio in a 96 Bonneville. That'* because 2.93 is a 4T65HD ratio derived from the 33/37 drive and driven gearing combined with a 3.29 diff. Yet.. in 1996 all the transmissions.. charged and not, should have been 4T60'* with various ratios. Supercharged should have been a 2.97 ratio.

Let'* try and help you further. Please tell us what production date month/year is on your drivers door sticker and probably on the RPO listing you pulled from the trunk. Ensure the vin on the spare tire cover (trunk rpo location) matches the VIN on your windshield. And lastly, please post a picture of your transmission where the main electrical connector attaches to it either on the front or side of the transmission.

What this will do is verify that the RPO you referenced is not a replacement tire cover that might have been replaced by a previous owner (if applicable), and whether the trans is a 4T65 or 4T60.

Simply put... if it'* a super late model 96 with a 97 model year 4T65, then it should have no issues using a 97 4T65 HD 2.93 gear ratio axle. Which will be relatively easy for you to find.....even in Canada.

ok here we go!!!

today i found a company that rebuilds CV shaft in Ontario, Canada which i was referred to by a company in the USA. now for those that want to know, from what i understand, the length is the ONLY difference, the CV splines and diameter are all the same, and the guy in Ontario told me to call rockauto with a part number, so i did, i ordered it, and we will see what happens. in the worst case i will have to switch around the outer CV joint. but to all, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, i cant say enough how proud i am that so many people pulled together for someone they don't even know, again thank you.

No, thank you, because you may have introduced something new to us. Billboost and Jimmyfloyd are really curious about your transmission. Anychance you could take a picture of the electrical connector on your trans? For instructional/educational purposes.

Actually yes. Compare vin #'* from your RPO sticker to your registration/title. We were wondering if maybe your spare tire cover may not be truly yours.

Every new issue is a learning experience for all of us. We learn from each other, then pass it on.
