I thought maybe the '92 models didn't have the feature that turns on the interior lights when a front door handle is pulled, and didn't have the lighted rings around the front door keyholes...is it possible that these features weren't added until '93?

And does the RAC module control the twilight sentinel feature'* auto turn-on function of the headlights? I concluded that there must be a bad relay contact within the lamp control module to cause that problem; the diagnostics in the shop manual perform electrical measurements at the connector while the module is disconnected.

Depending on how hard it is to remove the RAC module, maybe I'll swap the one from my '93 into my '92.

It'* possible that the 92 didn't have the option - but I thought that you had performed the diagnostics and passed. Do your interior lights come on when the door is open?

Yes, the interior lights turn on when the door is opened, and also when I use the remote to lock/unlock the doors or open the trunk.

By the way, I'm not the original poster...mine has a different problem(*) than his...

One of those tests above checks to see that when either door handle is pulled, the RAC module receives the signal. I would think your best bet is to switch the two RAC modules.

Now I'm curious about the RAC tests because I don't remember the lamp control module tests telling me to pull a door handle. I'll take a look at the RAC diagnostics first and see what I find.

You're lucky - switch the ones in your 92 and 93.
You mean he should try swapping in a known-good unit from another car just to confirm the theory, right? I agree...

The other guy has to buy a new Bonneville.
There is a down side to buying a new Bonneville?

Thanks to all those that provided comments.
Now here is the follow up:
Ignition to Run:
A & B should be 12 volts. I measured 0 volts. A to ground was 12 volts and B to ground was 12 volts. BUT I measured 12 volts across A and B with the ignition off.
B to G: 12 volts
B to C: 12 volts with any door open
A to K: I got 12 volts all the time (Supposed to come on when door handle lifted?)
J to G: Interior lamps turned on.

Trunk release works without the module plugged in.

Here'* the strange part:
I plugged the connector back into the module. The interior lights came on! (I had the passenger door open.) Now the the lights come on when the door handle is lifted. It appears everything works as it'* supposed to. Prior to doing all of the the tests I swithed two relays (one of which controls the courtesy lights). It didn't matter. I switched them back after the lights started working again and they still work.

Maybe I had a bad connection in the harness connector. I assume the module is solid state.

Is this same module used on my wife'* '99 Bonneville? If it is, next time I'm going to swap them. What does it cost??

Yes, that'* what I meant on the A and B tests. Each one should have 12V+, separately when the ignition is on.

Did you have the other two harnesses connected when you tested the trunk release? Did you test it with the door button or the remote? This point is probably not important.

A to K had 12V+ all of the time? That is only supposed to have 12V+ when the door handle is lifted. That would mean that the grey wire is shorted to the ground. One of your door handle switches may be permanently closed.

I would expect it to turn on the lights after you plugged in the RAC module, but then it should time out and turn the lights off after a period of time. And then they wouldn't come back on.

I can't say for sure that the 99 has the same module - that'* a risky switch.

So how is it working now? Everything normal or do you have the problem described above?

Everything is working fine. The interior lights come on when the door handle is raised. The radio stays on for 10 minutes when the car is shut off (when the door isn't opened), like it used to.
This car doesn't have a remote trunk release.
What two other harnesses? This module only had one harness plugged into it. That was the only one I disconnected.
