Default A couple of Q'* for my 95 SSEi

Hey all... I'm now driving the 95 SSEi that I picked up a couple of months ago from the junk yard, and need help with a couple of things... first off, does anyone have an idea why my radio doesn't work? It cuts in for a split second sometimes, but not often.. second. Where does the antenna run? I think it might be the antenna wire is broken somewhere...

Second, the traction control light doesn't go out... what are some symptoms and issues with the traction control?

Oh, and the reason why I'm driving the 95 now, and not my 90 is that the "White Curse" lives on... and my 90 is probably a write off...

The antenna wire runs from the back of the stereo, under the dash to the passnger side, and along the inside edge of the door sill to the rear. Start by checking connections on both ends first. I assume you mean FM reception cuts in and out?

Your traction control could be either the EBCM (electronic brake control module) which is not common and is located beside the master cylinder on a 95, the PMV (pressure modulator valve) located under your airbox, more common and quite expensive, or a wheel speed sensor or associated wiring. The best place to start is to disconnect and clean all 4 wheel speed sensors (located in the back side of each hub assembly), and reassemble with dielectric grease. Pay close attention to the wiring, particularly the RF, as the wires can be damaged if a belt ever came off the car.

Only the dealer can pull the ABS/Traction codes. Most of us just learn to live without the system. I removed the bulb in the dash for my 93.

Typically, if your ABS still works, the problem will lie in your PMV assembly. It has a very large connector going to it, and multiple brake lines (under the airbox). If your ABS and Traction are both out, it'* typically a wheel speed sensor.

My bet? PMV. Expensive and labor-intensive.

Well, neither the AM or the FM works, but the CD player works, but doesn't like to give back the disc... go figure...

And as for the traction control.. I forgot to mention that the ABS doesn't work either, but doesn't throw any codes... kind of odd if you ask me... that is something that makes me worry...

And another question that came to mind.. the DIC says that my rear light/* are out, yet they are all functioning as they should be.. could that just be dirty contacts in the bulb sockets?

For the rear lights, did you check your license plate lights to make sure those aren't blown?

The licence plate lights are wired into the DIC? That would be quite suprising... but I will check them out tommorow morning...

The funny thing is its the radio that bugs me the most... LOL....

The stock radio in our '94 started to keep the cd'* some of the time, too. That was when I decided it wasn't worth the hassle, and put in an aftermarket head unit. I'd suggest the same route for you, as the factory unit you have sounds like it needs some serious repair, and that will likely cost you more than the purchase price of an aftermarket head unit that WORKS! Gotta have the music!!!

I had a small local garage tell me they can troubleshoot the ABS/Traction System, for about $100 to scan it. So there may be options other than a dealer. Without getting your car scanned somewhere, troubleshooting the system will be difficult. But likely your problem will be a wheel speed sensor, which is built into the bearing assembly. Could possibly be the conrtol module, which I hear is a VERY expensive part.

Good luck getting your '95 starightened out. Sounds like you have a fair amount of work ahead of you.

AM doesn't use the same antenna. The problem is your head unit.

If ABS doesn't work either, check those WSS'* on all 4 corners. ABS and traction will NOT SET A CODE. So don't bother looking for one. Only a light, or a code that only the dealer can extract.

License plate lights (both of them) are on the tailliamp circuit for the DIC.

Well, my concern for the ABS and TC is that the ABS light isn't even on... so, who knows what it might be... just the fact that there is no light on tells me its more than just a WSS....but we'll see... I might look at selling the car soon, too many problems are cropping up for it to be worth my while, even though the engine has been rebuilt by GM... and the valve covers have the stickers to prove it...

You ought to charge for that bit of info.... I spent hours cleaning tail light & marker light sockets trying to figure out what that warning was still on. Finally noticed the Plate lamp was out....
