Yes, it is. I live in Florida, so there is sand everywhere all the time, but I'm not exactly sure why I get so much up in the engine bay. I know it can't be good, but I don't know how to keep it out.

Car might have gone to the beach and played in the sand while you weren't looking.
You might want to hop over to the detailing section, pick up some engine cleaner then CD2 detailer for it. Works great.
