1. Remove the belt.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector and wire.
3. Take off the bolts that hold the alternator.
4. Alternator should pull right out.
5. Repeat backwards.

It'* easier to change the alternator on a bonneville than on any other engine i've ever worked on. Betcha can do it in 10 minutes.

Do you need anything to take the belt off?

Disconnect the negative battery cable before anything else.

Disconnect the POSITIVE cable for safety. If you disconnect the negative, it can ground out. There are stub lines on the negative still connected to the engine/chassis. The positive feeds directly to the alternator.

10 minute job (4 beers) max.

(The negative cable, even when disconnected, is still grounded behind the battery on the inner wall of the fender).

Hey Boss, you totally lost me on that one. If there'* no cable going to the neg terminal the circuit can't be completed.

If the loop to the fender is still connected, and the hot lead to the alternator grounds to the motor, the circuit will be completed through the motor mounts. Not only that, but .....

****.

It'* the beer talking.

Damn Gearheads.

(Anyone wanna give me credit for a very long day?)
