Default Car go vroom and stay vroom!

i have a problem i think its related to my brakes...i noticed today that my car when im slowing down to stop the rpms go down slowly past 1500 to about 1000 then all of the sudden it goes up to 1500 and stays there...well my car idles way below that....so i am wondering if there is anything taht can stick to cause it to stay at a certain rpms...i also noticed when i got home i put it in N...and tapped the gas a litte to about 1200 and itstarted back down then it went up to 1500 real quick heard the intake start sucking any everyhing...does anyone have this problem or have any suggestions

i dunno about the putting it in nuetral and tapping the gas, but everything before that ive experienced in both my (88LE) and my dads (93SE). Its normal behavior. As you slow down from a high speed, its the transmission changing gears for ex OD -> D ->2 etc. The rpm goes down with the gear its in and when it hits a certain speed, its shift point, it changes gears, and the rpm changes because the computer set the idle at that speed in that gear. My tranny is a bit old (224k miles) so i can feel everything it does and thats what ive noticed. Thats my best guess. Hope this helps.
