Anybody know what this engine/trans knock is? - Video
I have a knocking noise in the engine or trans of my '95 SE. I can hear it when I rev the engine as the RPM is coming down. The trans is in park when I hear it.
A couple times I have heard it constant when the engine was idling. It would stop when I raise the engine RPM. It is definately coming from the driver'* side of the car.
I've included a link to a video so the noise can be heard. the whole video is almost 2 minutes long.
Can anyone identify it? Thanks.

It doesn't have a supercharger, it'* an N/A engine. That'* just engine noise.
The noise seems to be coming from the driver'* side of the car. I don't believe it'* the harmonic balancer - wrong side of the engine.

maybe broken/breaking/failing flex plate? torque converter failing? never personally heard of a torque converter making noise, but i could be wrong, but thats about the only two things i can think of on that side of the engine that could possibly make noise.
Hard to tell until you shoot video from farther away (out of the engine bay) and from underneath, but I'd say it'* either rod knock, wrist pin, or a lifter. In any case:

I changed the upper intake maybe 4 or 5 years ago with a new one from GM dealer. I did not change the lower intake gaskets at the time though. I think I changed it before I found this forum. I'll have to check tomorrow in the daylight to see what the date stamp on the UIM is.
I change oil regularly, 3k-5k miles, try to make it around 3k. Oil has not had water in it since changing UIM.
I'll try to get another video maybe tomorrow further away from the engine. I wasn't sure if the knocking would be picked up by the camera if the camera was further away.
I didn't mention in my first post that I've had the torque converter shudder while in lock up when a load is put on the engine. Had it when I bought the car at 122k, car now has 182k on it. No other problems with tranny the whole time.
The date on the UIM has nothing to do with anything. If it'* not a Dillon, Dorman, or APN, it can fail within 2-3 years. We've had GM intake manifolds fail that early.
That may or may not be your problem, but if you have a GM intake on the car, and it'* NOT your current problem (causing the engine to fail), we need to keep cracking at this.
