The slow cranking makes me think the problem is in the starter. Try giving the starter a good rap with a hammer.

Security light flashes when door open as soon as I try to start the car security stays on solid. NO cranking nothing, I hear the fuel pump prime but thats it.

For most people are their vats wires, orange with two thin white wires in it under the dash cover.

That sounds ABSOLUTLY nothing like what the VATS system does when the key pellets or the reader is shot. To my knowledge, and I maybe wrong, but the VATS disables the fuel pump...not the starter.....I spent all day under OBE'* Bonne last summer chasing the VATS crap down.

Sounds like you have a junk starter.

Did you also give the starter solenoid a tap? Just make sure you hit the metal section & not the plastic on the end.

I'm sticking with starter, get under there, smack the **** out of it with a hammer and have someone hold the key to crank.

The fact that it was "cranking slow" when you got done fueling up, but couldn't crank fast enough to fire tells me right there it'* not VATS related.

Bypassing it though if it hasn't been done before is a good idea though just as a precaution...Not that reliable of a system.

Could be either, a volt meter to the solenoid should rule out one or the other.

When the starter finally gave up the ghost in my '96 Buick, it did it in the same manner as yours...slowed down until it stopped working all together. As the car started previously with the security light on, I'd still be leaning toward the starter.
