Default 94 bonneville stalling problems

I have been driving a 94 Bonneville recently. The problem used to happen infrequently, but it is starting to be constant. It usually happens when I am between 40-50Mph. If I press the gas down, as to accelerate, an electrical dinging sound like a door ajar sound happens, and the car seems like it is not shifting, and the rpms go up high. If I let off the gas, its fine, but it has stalled before. The Check engine light also comes on for this brief period. Does anyone have any ideas. The car has 160K miles, and its my girlfriends, and I wanted to check before we took it in to get looked at. Any specific possible areas electrical/transmission/fuel injection would be great.
Thanks for the help, and this is a great forum.

Surely you have a history code set, You'll have to find a way to check your codes for further diagnosis.

The code will give you the general area in which to start checking. And also help us know what is going on.

Autozone doesn't have the ability to read OBDI like this car has. Advance Auto should be able to read it, they seem to have equipment capable of OBDI protocol..hopefully they have the cable as well.
