I may.. but not right now. Straitor is hooking me up with his.. so those will do for the time being. I may be starting the car with my stockers though.. because he'* taking his sweet time!

Yeah, it was very risky..

We'll see how things pan out. I may *MAY* go after that strip cam on s1per when I go after replacing the tranny [which I know while happen soon with my driving], of course the new tranny would be fitted with an LSD . But for now, I think I will be happy with the power I will make.

Competition Cams has a toll free number you can call to give them basic info on your car and they will use a program to select the right components for you. No charge for the info

quick question... do the vin c engines have as much complicated electronics as a newer engine? if not then wouldnt a cam or other failry significant mods have less conflitcts with the ecm?
opensourceguy : since your into the engine maybe it would be a good idea to see what L27 parts could be swapped in...

Are only three major differences in the ECM controls between a "C" (or "L") and the later engines

The first is that the MAF maps were extended to 255 gm/min from 170
Second the EGR changed from digital to linear.
and third, late engines have two O2 sensors instead of one.

I also need to check the spark maps but do not think there was any major change.

*Mechanically* the engines are quite different but electronically, not as much.

If you could get an L27 Manifold setup, you'd have more power. But getting a TB to mate up with it and ur PCM might be fun. AFC anyone?

Low 15'* is VERY optimistic. L36 cars don't even run that stock. They have ~40HP advantage on you..

That'* fine. Everything I am doing here is optimism. I'm not exactly the most capable person here. Never done this before, nobody to help me [physically]. I don't exactly have the odds on my side. However, no matter what, as long as there is an improvement, and I know the car will be reliable, AND I learned something.. then I am happy. I will be ecstatic if I got into the 15s.

phoenix: I am not really too interested in putting in L27 parts. I think my main goal here, is to really prove this engine CAN be a performer, even though there isn't a whole lot out there [and what is out there, sure isn't cheap, unfortunately {no offense to any S1 retailers}]. You see, I am not really putting a whole lot of money into this.. a few hundred dollars, for a supierior running car, the knowledge of engines, and how to really work on them [not just what a book says]. Not to mention having a quick Bonneville [I want to prove some people wrong, in town. And to ruin the stereotypes].

For the ECU not having a big difference.. I think it would. No matter what the ECU is programmed to run with stock components. It isn't optimized to run on a hot cam, or 1.9:1 rockers. The car may run like that, may not. If it does, chances are it will perform like crap. I got a rough estimate from GM Tuners of $160 [will post more info later. you'll see why it is that expensive soon enough ].

I think the L27 parts have been suggested because they're just an update the the C. It'* not as major of a change as the L36 cars.

I think decking the heads would benefit you, all the mods do work together, and will be more combined, then the sum of individual gains.
