Drop that oil pan. The timing cover slides off the engine with pressed in pins. The pan has a 1 piece rubber seal, and when you reinstall the cover, its VERY likely that you will pinch the oil seal against the cover. Been there done that.
If you don't want to replace the 30 dollar oil pan gasket, either reinstall it, and take your chance, its rubber, and may seal up ok. I used permatex sealer on the rubber seal. so far, so good, no leaks yet.
Drop that pan, and clean her out. You'll feel better once you've cleaned it out.
New camshaft magnet is in order!! Order one beforehand, from the GM dealer and put her in.
