Removing factory radio, help!
I'm trying to remove and replace the radio in my 89. I took off the wood trim, removed front two screws. whats left to get it out of there?
This may sound like a "cop out" but I left it to the professionals...
10 mins and about $20 dollars or so, after buying the head unit and speakers and taking a look at how the original stereo was to come out....I figured the money was well spent. No chance of breaking anything else....
But that'* just me...
My 2 cents...sorry.
Enjoy the new deck tho. By the way, did you get new speakers too? The Delco'* in the back are nice on our particular cars, but the fronts could be upgraded.
Good luck

You have forgotton the "secret" retaining clip under the middle front of the radio. It'* been a while since my 89, but I remember the little spring-loaded clip in the middle of the bottom front edge of the radio. You have to hold it in with your finger while you pull the radio forward.
Hey thanks for all of your help. Turns out the problem was the plastic trim piece on top of the radio(where the two screws come out). I had the screws out but it was still getting hung up. I had a buddy hold a screwdriver on each side and the stereo pulled right out. thanks again
