Possible Tripometer/Odometer fix.
Ok guys so I may have fixed my tripometer that seems to be a comon failure on older bonnevilles. I have found that the plastic gears on both ends of the odometer and tripometer seem to be quite fragile and this is where it fails. I have fixed mine I think...Havent taken the car out to test if it works yet...but will tomorrow. Both my plastic gears were not completely broken and this is essential to fixing it. The gears just seemed to crack which doesnt allow the trip and odometer to work. What I did was I took very small washers and I JB welded them to the plastic gear and used a C Clamp to gently apply pressure to keep the gear together and let it set for the full 24 hours. and Voila the odometer and trip seem to be working now as I turned it gently with my fingers and the odometer turned again along with the trip. as I said earlier I havent had the car out yet to see if it is actually going to work under its own power. I will keep all of you posted as I think all of you like myself, like to have all the bells and whistles working in our cars
Actually it is fairly simple if you take your time and are not overly rough with the plastic gears. They tend to be very fragile. It also helps if the gear is still intact. I have another cluster but the main gear is split in half. So I cant fix that one unless I find a new gear for it.
