my 87 stalled on me today
Hi, I apologize for a retarted question in advance! I hope you guys can give me some tips.
So my 87 bonneville stalled today when I was sitting at a light, It wouldnt start back up right away - I tried a few times, I pushed the car to the side of the road(couldnt have been more than 1-2 minutes), tried again and it started fine on the first try! I drove home without any problems, started and stopped it a few more times, did a lap around the neighborhood - didnt notice anything wrong.
what might have caused this? what should I check? It wasnt cool at all, I was stuck at the light with cars behind me trying to get through, so I want to figure out what was wrong and fix it or at least know what it is if it happens again.
Thanks! Ive been reading this forum on and off when I have car questions - you guys rock!

Fuel problems can be a little tricky and only show up every now and then. Maybe the fuel pressure regulator? Pull the vacuum line off it while running and check for any fuel coming out through the vacuum port.
Also don't rule out electrical. My bonne did the exact same thing. When it finally did it on the interstate it would not re-start at all until I pulled the ICM connector off and put it back on. Then it fired right up. At this point I knew it was bad electrical contacts on the connector.

I had a Grand AM that did that too. It would die randomly, sometimes going 25mph, sometimes 75 on the highway. Most times it would just hiccup, the entire car going dead (including gauges, etc.), and then a split second later, all would be well. Other times it would stall out dead. Sit there for a minute or two, try the starter again, and off I'd go.
I never did figure out what was wrong with it. I just sold the POS...

there was one time that ours just straight up died, like somebody unhooked the battery. no juice, no nothing. ended up smoking the alternator. put a new alternator on it, it started right up, all was good.
You can narrow it down by the process of elimination.
Clean Batt. connectios and all grounds, clean tighten and apply dieelctric great to the ICM,
And most other sensor connections and see if it solves it.
