The first thing I'd try is the Idle Air Control valve (IAC). They get gunked up with deposits and stick closed sometimes. Don't replace it just yet; try removing it and cleaning it up good with a can of throttle body or carb cleaner. Also clean the "seat" that the valve seals against, in the TB.

The procedure is also on Padgett'* website (http://www.6007.us) with pictures and details.

I bet that will take care of the idle problem.

sounds like it'* faulty. even when it'* dirty it still works and will still keep the engine running. it just won't do it very well. Here'* what you can do, let off the gas and have the car stumble around a little, then give it gas to keep it alive.. basically try to keep it alive without staying on the gas. if that doesn't fix the idling problem, it is probably mechanical [there is a set screw you can adjust]. It could be the butterfly is missing this screw [butterfly nut not tight enough], or that the set screw has loosened over time. either way it'* really easy.. i got the instructions around here somewhere i'll look today

Glad to hear that worked for you! I live to serve...

Remember, OSG: Not all cars will fail in exactly the same way as yours has. Your IAC was just slow, his completely stuck.

Well, it is very common that the IAC gets slow when it'* dirty, but I cannot say I have ever seen them get so dirty they cannot operate. Oh well, one more I didn't know. What'* that.. 400ish times i've been wrong here? Give or take a few.

Nobody get'* 'em all right. You've just got to start using words like "might be" instead of "is", "might fix" instead of "will fix", etc. That way you're putting suggestions out there without declaring it to be The Answer. Unless you absolutely know that it'* the answer...
