well driver her as long as you can- but if the frame is really that bad- it will only get worse- and especially with all the curves in that frame- just like you said who knows how much good metal there is under there.

Well talking to a buddy of mine and he used to own a 91 sunbird GT, did a bunch of work to it, replaced the engine also, then his wife wanted an Exterra, since she travels so much. He tells me the guy that bought it, now wants to sell it, I might be able to pick it up for 600$.


I will talk it over with Renée and see what happens, damn car is white too.

Sunbird GT with the turbo four?



We used to have a '91 SE coupe with the 3.1. Lots and lots of power, unfortunately it was heavily blunted down by the 3-speed automatic :(

dang, it truly is a shame you couldnt come down and get our bonneville. ZERO rust, and only a little bit of balding of the clear coat by the sun roof.

It has the 3.1 auto in it. I kinda wish it had the 5-speed.


At this point for 600$ it might be worth the 6 hour trip(one way), just to get a cheap SAFE car. If we get a year out of that car, then it will owe us nothing.

Ah, so it'* the same powertrain as what we had. I was younger when we had the car, it was sold when I was 13 or 14... we had it two cars before the Bonneville.

My dad bought it with 384,000km on the clock for $300 back in summer 1999 - the original owner commuted from Hamilton to Toronto and back every day for 9 years... he wanted to offload the Sunbird cause he just got a new GP GT. Had a bastardly bad oil leak and needed numerous wear and tear items, but it treated us pretty decent. Sold at 425,000km for $1000, still running nice. Net profit in terms of purchase/sale price, but much more than $700 worth of parts was put into it.

I remember the car being an absolute riot of noise and harshness at anything past 3500rpm, it'* definately not a car you'll want to wind out often at all. It'* much more at home torquing its way around town. Handling is "meh" from what I was described compared to the GT-* Corolla coupe that replaced it, but then again, you've got the GT model. The headlight eyelids were pretty trick, but hopefully you won't have any issues of it being stuck up/down. The little mechanical sound they make when you pop on the headlights was really cool

You'll want to watch out for rust anywhere and everywhere of course, being a '91. But our car was specifically bad at the bottom of the doors, as well as the rocker panels.

To bad for you bonneville, I miss mine a lot... If your going to opt for a small car thats cheap and reliable go for an older civic, I know most people on this site dont like honda but if its just to get you around they are great! ,I bought mine for 400 bucks 2 years ago, its got tonnes of mileage and great on gas and Ive only had to replace the rotors and brakes....

A CIVIC, are you NUTS, lmfao. Actually Renée enjoys a larger car. She had to drive my 03 Malibu out of town for work the past 2 days ( minimum 1 hour each way), and well she missed her car. The seats in the Bonneville are WAY more comfortable, I really noticed it when I had the Bonneville and drove it for the afternoon, then jumped in my car to fill it up and get it washed. If felt like jumping from a nice comfy chair to sitting on a wooden stool, lol.


I am not too keen on getting a smaller car like that, but if I can get it for 600$ and it would probably pass the safety with no repairs, that is an option worth investigating. As for driving it. I think it would mostly be in in town car. Usually when she has contracts out of town she gets a ride with another person on the contract.
