My compass and dic dont work. but they did at one time. when they first started to fail, if we would press the cluster right above the map, the would both come on for a while. not any more. i believe that it is just the screens though, because we can hear the beeps that eminate from the dic, alerting us that something is up. and when it does come on, the dic is already initiated, because it doesnt go through that sequence that it does when u turn it on. darned electronics.

If it'* anything like the '92-'99 series, it'* not the screens themselves going bad, but oxidized pins on the ribbon cables connecting the various circuit boards in the gauge cluster. Dismantling and reassembling is usually all that'* required to get good connections again. I think there are instructions for R&R on the '87-'91 gauge clusters in the TechInfo. I know there are for the later series ('cause I wrote them ), and yours would be similar.
