Most people use fel pro gaskets for two reasons, they work good and the price is good.
On the use of gasket goop aka RTV on head gaskets...I'd suggest against it. Personal choice I guess.

My friend get Fel-Pro'* for whatever car hes tearing into whenever he can... If the gaskets are hard to come by then he goes to the dealership... Never had a single problem with Fel-Pro in the almost 8 years I have known him...
They are at the extreme least Equal to OE or better....

I hate the bottom ends of these motors, they just don't hold up... I have heard soooo many of these knocking... It makes a GM 3.8 look like king... I'd rather mess with a 3800 any day...
I have seen many blown head gaskets on these ford 3.8'* as well... A lot of the 3.8'* were recalled by ford for a head gasket issue... A friend had to take his 95 Taurus in for that recall...

Alright, Fel-Pro gaskets and head bolts it is.
It doesn't surprise me that her car sucks. I think that'* why her parents are giving it to her, and telling her to fix it. I think they would have just junked it otherwise. It'* really falling apart, and just sitting behind their garage. Rotting away [I believe it has been sitting there a good 8 months].
It'* for a friend though, and I have always taken care of my friends. So, it'* all good. And I doubt she'll do anything as far as machining goes. It'* just a beater car.

I'll be sure to recommend it to her, but I don't know if that'll convince her enough to do it. Any mileage estimate on how long they'll last? It is a 94 or 95, btw.
