Default 1990 Dash Clusters, bare bones Vs Gauges

After some searching here in the 87-91 forum, I have not found a conclusive answer and I am sure someone here has maybe found out whether this will work or not.

My Bonneville LE (pretty bare bones model, crank windows, 14" wheels) has the basic cluster with onlly speedo, fuel and temp gauges. After my recent problems, it occured to me that it would be nice to know whats happening with the mechanicals.

My wifes 1990 Bonneville LE, has a few more options, speakers in the doors, 15" wheels, power everything and a full set of gauges including the tach.

Will a cluster from a 1990 LE donor car (yet to be found) be a plug and play? My Haynes manual doesnt have a wiring diagram for the dash. Some of the pages have fallen out due to age, so it may have once held the info I so desperatly seek LOL. Or would I be better off getting some aftermarket gauges?
I hate to drop $$$ for a cluster, only to find it wont work. I am also hesitant to tear into my wife'* working dash, fear of frying something, and her dash pad is getting REALLY crumbly with age to boot.

I think the simple answer is no...

But you could most likely change the oil pressure sending unit, the temp sender unit, and add the wiring for all of them..But you'd have to have a service manual to be able to figure out what wires are needed and where in the pinout they would be located as the pinout for each cluster were somewhat diffrent...

I looked at a handfull of 90-91 LE'* before I bought mine... I refused to buy it if it didn't have the rally gage cluster Then I found an LE that had it...

here is my research on the issue (93 model year specific)....

Im swapping from the rally gagues in my car to the SSE/SSEi cluster, along with the dash. From what i have found if you get the entire dash from a car that has the full cluster the wiring should be there...there is a LARGE connector that is on the dash and plugs into the main harness....this contains all the wires necessary to install the different cluster with no other changes. All the splices and the extra stuff is in the dash harness, and that large connector...chances are that GM used one harness for the car, and then just left pins out if they were not used in the cluster.....you will NEED the FSM for this is you are serious

hope this helps, and gives you alittle insight on the swap....if you have more questions....ask away

Its sounding easier to just add some aftermarket gauges. LOL. Its not a show car, just my work driver/mobile office. A mighty comfortable one at that. Thanks for the help
