1991 Park Avenue Chugging
My son just called says the Park Avenue is chugging under acceleration , he can get it to about 60mph if he very gently accelerates . The car has less than 30K on the clock and just about every thing on the car is new including all new fuel injectors . He thinks it might be a sensor ??? Any ideas ? We are going to swap cars tomorrow , I''l let him take my Road Master .

I wasn't there to experience the chugging , but what I gathered was that when he tried to accelerate it would chug off and on . Like it was the engine off and on , or a misfire ? He said if he accelerated ever so slowly he could get it to 60mph and he drove it home , which aggravated me no end because now he'* 70 miles away .
If he would have brought it directly to my house he could have taken my car home and I would have taken it in to my guy in the morning , who actually knows what he'* doing .

Sounds like a misfire but without further diagnosis you can't know if it is fuel or spark related. The usual suspects are spark plug, spark plug wires, coils and low fuel pressure. First step is to get it scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Since it is a 91 it is OBD1, and you can get the DTC'* with a paper clip. A procedure to do that is here:

Deff get him to check for codes before trying to drive all the way back to you.

I agree with Tech II...could be a clogged cat. The same thing happened on my 2001 Buick LeSabre. I had to feather the gas pedal to get it up to 55. It was also running hotter than normal due to the restricted exhaust. If you hit the cat and can hear something rattling around then it is bad and should be removed and "gutted" as I did with mine.

Just got it back it was the coil , the wires inside shorted out . The mechanic though some one had tampered with it because the tabs / connectors were bent down . It died after the mechanic test drove it so we were luck not to have to pay for a tow on top of the repair . Hopefully this is it and we have all the bugs out of this thing .
