Default Door sill emblem problem

I posted this in "Detailing and Appearance" but after 24 hours, the only response I got was from somone who'* never even seen a GXP I figured I'd post in the GXP section to expose the question to a crowd more knowledgable (I hope) on the subject:

In working on the detailing of my GXP, I've come across a small issue that I haven't figured out how to resolve.

Unfotunately, the road salt has gotten to the GXP emblems in both the driver'* and passenger'* door sills.

I was going to replace them (GM # 10385603), however, they are close to $60 each and really don't have an extra $120 for something more of an annoyance than a "need" (though as much as it annoys me, maybe it is a "need").

On top of that, the last time I checked, GM didn't have any available Nation-wide.

I was thinking about trying to refinish them, but I'm unsure if they are just stuck on with the ususal factory two-sided tape, or if they are actually bolted in.

Has anyone ever tried to removed them?

Anyone have any experience with these, or maybe have a side skirt off the car that can look from the inside to see if there are any retainers or fasteners sticking through?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

Not sure if you get it from the inside or out.

They are readily available. Same part number is for the following vehicles:

Bonneville2004-2005HZ(WA2)

Grand Prix
2005-2007WR(Z7U)

Grand Prix
2008-2008WC

Here'* the diagram from www.compnine where it'* available for $68.74.

Their diagram looks a little generic and I can't make out how it'* fastened.

I found that same diagram, but hadn't realized the GP used the same plate.

Maybe GM will get a new stock of them in the future. As I said, right now, they have none Nation-wide.

Compnine is a National AutoBody vendor, they have alot after the Dealer quits. Being Pontiac is dead, I wouldn't expect GM to restock parts

Why would GM get a new stock of them in? Also I got the same answer from a GM dealership when me and the parts guy was searching on his pc for a new gear shift **** for the GXP and the PC said that it was on back order (even the non GXP) and no one had them in stock... So don't hold your breath for GM to make any more parts for these GXPs..

Isn't the manufacturer required to make parts for their cars for a certain period of time after the cars are no longer available new?

Or was that an old requirement?

I think that requirement is to the end of the standard warranty period. And to provide for all vehicles under Extended, but not have to sell to the general public. But whatever it is, Pontiac being a dead, bankrupt, and now non existant part of GM.... I thinks it doesnt matter. I look for GM to stop all sales to the general public as it tries to keep an inventory for warranties, both standar and extended across the board with all segments that were closed. Dealing with warranties and service I think went a long way in GM'* decisions not to allow others to buy certain brands and save them. Warranties, service, and legal responsibilities cause GM number crunchers to not be willing to accept deals made/based on just worth of a Companies assets. They have to factor in the money they received for GMPP'*, the cost of refunding service warranty work done by the new owners of a brand, and how to transfer existing parts and the unwanted transferring of vendor contract/contacts to a Company that now becomes a competitor.

What does this all mean? I think it means that very soon we will be kicking stones and hoping aftermarket vendors take up the slack. My body shop had a hard time finding me the drivers side flared rocker moulding. The front bumper cover wasn't as bad but expensive. We are very fortunate the LD8 lived on in the Buick Division.
