Default Another Bubbling Hood

I didn't want to drag up the old thread. I've had the paint bubbles under the lip of the hood for a while. I probably should have complained then, but as it wasn't much of an issue being out of site, I didn't bother. Now, it has spread to the top of the hood. Dealer'* response was that they didn't know of GM ever covering that problem, and only would on complete "rust" through. I sent an email off to GM - we'll see what they say.

Here'* the answer from Pontiac Customer Assistance Center. It'* what I expected to hear.

Good Afternoon! I want to thank you for contacting the Pontiac Customer
Assistance Center. I appreciate you taking the time to write us in regards to
2000 Pontiac Bonneville. I sincerely apologize for the paint concerns you
indicated you have experienced. I understand your frustration and I would like
the opportunity to assist.

GM views are that while paint delaminating does occur, it is rarely due to a
factory defect. Several factors will affect the life of paint: environment,
maintenance, chemicals, storage, etc.

Our experience has been that a defect attributable to the original manufacturing
and assembly process generally makes itself apparent quite early in the life of
the automobile. After an automobile has been in service for several years, many
factors can contribute to paint chipping or peeling, which are beyond the
control of the manufacturer.

Please be advised that our main function at the Customer Assistance Center is to
act as liaisons between our customers and the dealership in the resolution of
concerns. The Customer Relationship Managers at the Customer Assistance Center
are not technically trained. We rely on our dealerships, which have first-hand
knowledge of the concerns of a particular vehicle, to answer technical questions
that are specific to your vehicle.

With that, for paint concerns, the dealer makes the final decision as they are
familiar with the local environment and have hands-on accessibility to your vehicle.
I especially like the "hands-on accessibility" part. The man never left the counter.

Had mine repainted pretty much no questions asked about 2 months ago. They did an ok job, but didn't really get good paint coverage on the leading edge. The clear coat is fine in this area, but not the color coats. I'm having it redone by a body/paint friend of mine while he repaints my bumper (all for the cost of redoing his computer and setting up his network for him - lol).

Good luck. If you push hard enough they'll do it for you.

Thanks. I'm trying to decide how far I wanna push, and what kind of job will be done. When I bought the car used, it had a lot of those tiny scratches throughout the paint. I went to the used car dealer where I buy most of my vehicles (not where I bought this one though) and got the name of the place that does their paint work. I'mn going to check there and see what can be done about those scratches, and then how much to repair the hood. Then, I'll compare that to the $400 - $500 cost the dealer gave me....or maybe if I could talk them into at least half.

Yep, my hood has the same affliction. Hasn't turned the corner yet to the top area of the hood. My whole front end is beat to sh##t from hitting deer, slamming hitching posts., & rock walls. I'll just get it done when funding is available.
