I have a 95 sse that I've replaced the air mix actuator (used from savage yard) but now it gives me cold when I set the temp high (90 degrees) and heat when I set the temp low (60 degrees). I even got another actuator from the savage yard but still gives me the reverse of what I set the temp for. I can't even perform the calibration as specified in the excellent "air mix actuator procedure" because the arm moves all the way to the left and not the right when I set the temp all the way up to 90. However it does move from left to right then back to the left after I start the car while its blinking the ECC display. The arm movement is smooth and both actuators have no extra play in the rotation of the arm before I tried either one of them. Everything else in the HVAC system works regarding the movement of the vents/doors.

To make it give me what I want for temp I have to perform the following after starting the car which always causes the ECC display to blink while it tries to perform a calibration:
1) Turn off the ECC then turn it back on (auto button)
2) Set the temp to the opposite of whats desired (has to be max either way)
3) Manually override the choice of vents as its usually the opposite of what you want

Now before I noticed the air mix actuator went bad, a burning electric smell would occasionally come and go while driving with heat selected. I suspect this was likely the HVAC programmer driving the actuator passed its full open/closed position until it broke it.

Anyways I've read several postings related to the ECC/air mix actuator but none seem to be the same temp-reversal I have. I'm beginning to think its the programmer now which as you know isn't cheap so any advice would be greatly appreiated. Thanks.

This is the first time since I have been here that I have heard of this happening. As you probably already know, the blinking ECC display is the programmer telling you that it sees an issue. So, your saying that you can get cold air by selecting 90* (or max) and the air stays cold for a long drive?

Unless something is hooked up backwards, I would think it it would have to be the programmer, since it provides the inputs that drive the temp as well as air discharge locations utilized. Default (if the system fails) is hot air from the floor vents and defrost.

This issue is totally baffling.

Yes once I set the temp high (90) on the ECC display the actuator arm stays in the cold position (all the way to the left) and vice versa.

I also thought I had reversed some of the programmer wires when I added the extension per the instructions but that checked out to be correct. I even thought about actually swapping the wires around but I'm not sure which wires to swap. Anybody have the schematic of what the wires do from the programmer to the actuator so I could try this?
