Default Wrecked 97 Bonnie!

A short while after I posted pics of my beloved 97. (I think about a week) This mess happened.
I was sitting at a local hospital waiting for my aunt to get discharged. The car was in park, engine off, and the emergency lights were flashing. A white Ford van came to a screeching halt behind me. I thought to myself, "Slow down dummy!!" The next thing I heard was an engine race, and then BOOM! The lady driving the van ended up on my bumper, nearly in my trunk! I immediately hit the brake! I was pushed a total of 3 1/2 feet. I got out of the car and saw the damage. The lady immediately started crying. She assured me that she had valid insurance and that she would take full responsibility. I took the car to get a quote on the damage and they said that she did in access of 1500-2500 dollars in damage. I just hope and pray that the car is fixable and show worthy once more. I am fine, I was checked out by the hospital personnel immediatly afterwards. I just woke up the next day with a sore neck and shoulder.

wow, good thing you are okay. It is pretty expensive, when I was rear ended, they needed to replace the bumper (I think there were bumper shock absorbers), part of the exhaust, realign trunk lid and hood, paint + clear, all together was like $1500. Hope they can get your bonnie looking like new again.

I'm betting that she meant to put it in reverse and pushed the shifter in the wrong direction. I've seen that happen a couple of times. I'm really sorry to see that, I remember that car as being extremely clean...

Scott, can you take some pictures of the trunk floor, the inside of the trunk sides, under the parcel shelf, and the underside of the bumper?
The angles you have aren't much good to showing how much damage has actually been done.

Where was the point of inpact on your bonnie? I know it'* just the pics, but it looks like just a crooked/poped trunk and a tailight that isn't secure.

Sorry to hear about the accident, they're never any fun :(

Default wrecked 97 bonnie

Thanks for all who posted comments on my rear- end collision. I talked to the insurance people, and they have TOTALED the car! I of course, bought the car back! I also, will purchase another Bonneville as soon as I find one! If anyone wants to know, I got 3450 out of the car. I purchased it back for 425! I hope to fix the car and I will buy another! I LOVE THESE CARS!!

I will answer some questions that I have noticed on the post of my accident...

Totaled for that?

Yes, the insurance guy told me that because of the mileage (188624) It would just be easier to total it. I of course objected. I was very saddened because of this. But, the guy was just doing his job. I have since bought another car and will post pics soon.

The point of impact was near the center at the top of the bumper on the passenger side. The tail light mounting bracket was broken, the trunk hinges were bent and the lip for the trunk was pushed up. the majority of the damage was on the passenger side from the center of the trunk to the outer most passenger side.

Yes, basically that is what she did. I found out later that the lady driving the van wasnt even supposed to be driving. I was told that she was supposed to be wearing glasses while driving. I was also told that this accident was the 3rd that they had in 2 months! So, I am not alone with this particular person.

Thanks for the concern. Im sorry, I already got the car fixed. I have also bought another car. You see where the tail light is popped out? Behind that, there was a good size crease in the sub-frame. The hinges for the trunk were also pretty bent up. Also, the foam behind the bumper was also broken away from the mount. I will also post some pics of the finished car as well. I will also add to those pics where it was hit.. Thanks again for all of the concern! I really appreciate it!
