Got my camera back from the shop... white balance still busted. BUT, it was a nice day at the Park. One of my favorite places on earth. It does not have the splendor of many of the National parks. This country is filled with splendor. Yet, iIf you go there often enough, you begin to understand it is the significance of its stories... the story of the courage and endurance of the soldiers who suffered that bitter winter, with barely clothing, housing, or food. One cannot run the Park in the dead of winter without asking "How did they do it?', "Why?", "What was in their hearts that drove them?" As you pick up on the stories, they begin to render something so profund, a committment beyond their own lives. They would face that winter and leave it behind, as the strongest hand-to-hand fighters of all the Continental Army brigades.

General Anthony Wayne, known as" The Drover". Starvation was upon the soldiers, and Wayne was dispatched to New Jersey to bring back all of the steer he could find, and slaughter the rest. Leaving nothing behind for the British.

These fields don't look like anything special. It was the only terrain expansive enough for drilling massed brigades. The German officer, Inspector General Freidrich von Steuben oversaw the brutal training. "Fix Bayonets!". Effective hand to hand combat with bayonets was not widely known. The brigades would become the most advanced and deadly forces in the Continental Army under von Steuben'* eye. Bayonets would then become a standard of war well into the 19th century.

The Grand Parade area would also be the stage where Washington addressed his troops. Which included the announcement of the signing of the French Treaty of Alliance on May 6, 1778. The first open declaration by a foreign country of support for The Fight for Independence .... and the introduction of General Lafayette to The Continental Army. Rallied by this after a winter of suffering, the forces would depart within weeks to confront the British forces.

The Valley Forge Chapel. Faces across the The Grand Parade area. If you want to get married there, all you have to do is plan a year and a half in advance. Rumor has it that many a prospective groom couldn't make that long of a haul. too much time to think about it.

The Valley Forge Memorial Monument. A monument to the roots of American resolve and a commitment to the perspective of Freedom. A reminder of all of the sacrifice it demands. Under the arch an inscription for those whose bodies were not strong enough to carry their bold hearts through the grueling winter....... "They shall not hunger anymore... neither thirst anymore."

nice bit of history you got there, I got some history down here too, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown. I drive through all the time and hang out with my friends there, and we kinda take it for granted, some of the oldest buildings in the U.*. are here.
