BTW, in the pics you tok under the bridge, what are the big girder-frames on the ground in the background?

Do you mean these orange ones on the left of the picture??



If so then that structure is a safety gate for the locks, not sure if you know what locks are. Basically if the locks fail this safety gate swings across and blocks or slows down the flow of water so that repairs can be carried out. It had to be used back in the early 1900'* cause a boat hit the locks.

Cool, wonder why I've neverseen those on the locks on the Ohio River? Must be that the water levels aren't as different on the Ohio...
