I took it to a manual wash...sprayed the bejesus out of it then went to an autowash, which I wont go back to, and it still stunk. I like the simple green soak idea

Spray some vinegar in the wheel wells make sure the paint around the area is soaking wet, i creamed a family of at least 4 skunks doesnt get any worse than that and my car doesnt like to sleep in the drive garage only, the smell went away after a few days, also heavy duty degreaser will remove bad smell, good luck

EDIT: but you are in Michigan it might not be any worse than the salt they laydown on the roads if you do use vinegar make sure your car is cool
