Well i would spread them, they can only go as wide as that opening. But i had to drill through the bumper reinforcement and it'* not that easy. And the mounting screws are kind of messed up as it is. I really did it more for looks than actual lighting, i mean i live right in the Twin Cities, there'* isn't a whole lot of dark roads to light up
