You don't have to remove the valve covers. I just did that because I had a bad gasket. I forget what the J shaped tube is called, but it goes inside the upper intake manifold. You'll see the old one when you take yours off and then should know where to put it.
Its easier if you clean up the lower intake to find the hidden bolts, but I suppose you would be able to find them just by guessing before you clean it up.

Don't forget the two hidden bolts under the UIM for the LIM. They're near the #5 and #2 intake runners INSIDE the top of the LIM.

This applies to every car here (particularly S2'*) and the LIM gaskets. S1 LIM gaskets typically go well beyond 125k or more without any issues.

Wow you guys are really brave......skilled to take apart the top of your engine and do your own work. I wish I could do stuff like that. I know I talk down on the 3800 for being old but its really nice to have an engine you can really work on and fix yourself.
