You can see the crank damage in this shot! Quite the nasty motor this one was. I was taking it to the ol' shop for scrap. The rotors were just garbage, and the oil pan had shavings and such in it.

These Iron blocks are effin' heavy!

Why, 3800s are almost a dime a dozen, cleaning, magnafluxing, and especially having to over bore crank journals is freaking expensive. At that kind of cost he would be better off getting a good shortblock and just having the cylinders punch maybe .010 or .020 over, having the block hot tanked. Or even better yet, you can get re-manufactured shortblocks for under $1000, Im going to take a stab in the dark and say $600-700

By the time you have done all of the work you could have gotten a long block for cheap..
Yea or the best is when you go pick up an engine and they say that one of the cylinder walls were cracked so they sleeved it and it will be another extra $500. WTF ?? You are charging me an extra $500 to put together a crappy engine... NO, you keep that engine.... (sorry that was a tangent)

But yes, machine costs can get pretty crazy if there is anything wrong with the block. Even better yet is when they turn a crank, that ends up costing more than just buying a new crank. Crazy machine shops, luckily enough my friends dad owns an automotive machine shop....
