Default TPMS not working, won't reset.

I have a 2006 Grand Prix GT, the TPMS worked when I first got the car, but I've noticed lately that a tire can drop 10lbs lower than the others and I get know warning at all.
I have tried resetting the TPMS in the DIC, I go to where it says reset and I hold down the arrow to reset and never get any messages like you are supposed to get, all it does is go to where it displays the date.
I was going to get my tires rotated and balanced, so I will have a tool to assign the tires to the computer in the proper order, but I am wondering now why it sees to not be working...
Could it have been reset in the past, but never put through the 4 speed ranges to calibrate it?
If so wouldn't it tell me it was calibrating or something?

I'd check the fuse, but from what I read that fuse handles a few things, so I don't think it is a fuse issue....

I opened up my FSM and got nothing to help me from it, although it did say for some issue see a diff chapter, so I need to dig out my second book...

I don't need the system to work, but if I have it then it would be nice to have it work just in case...

I carry a nice lil AC/DC air pump that you can tell to stop at the right pressure...

After a little searching I found some old posts that may help..

Shaun 300 said ""You can actually do the relearn yourself. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the key fob with the key in the on position until the horn beeps twice. Then going from LF-RF-RR-LR drop the air in the tire until the horn chirps. When you get to the left rear it should double chirp to tell you the learn was successful.""

Justin said "Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Apply the parking brake.
Turn the exterior lamp switch from OFF to parking lamps 4 times within 4 seconds. A double horn chirp will sound and the low tire pressure indicator will begin to flash indicating the TPM learn mode has been enabled.
Caution: Over inflating tires may cause personal injury or damage to the tires and wheels. When increasing tire pressure do not exceed the maximum inflation pressure as noted on the tire sidewall.

Important: If a horn chirp does not sound after 35 seconds for any of the 4 sensors, turn the ignition OFF to exit the learn mode and repeat the procedure from step 1.

Starting with the left front tire, increase/decrease the tire pressure for 8-10 seconds, or until a horn chirp sounds. The horn chirp may occur before the 8-10 second pressure increase/decrease time period has been reached, or up to 30 seconds after the 8-10 second pressure increase/decrease time period has been reached.
After the horn chirp has sounded, proceed as in step 4 for the next 3 sensors in the following order:
5.1. Right front

5.2. Right rear

5.3. Left rear

After all sensors have been learned, exit the learn mode by turning OFF the ignition.
After the learn mode has been exited, adjust all tire pressures to the recommended kPa/psi. Refer to Vehicle Certification Label .
Source(*):"

If I am able to get them to work, I am guessing I will still have to do the 4 speed zones calibration?

I've never had to do the speed calibration with a TPMS based on pressure sensors.

The main thing I do not get is why I get no reset related messages, it just goes to the date info section..
I have read others have reset there and it says reset, but I get nothing...
I may try the hold lock/unlock on keyfob, or try this
Amazon Amazon
,

VXDAS Auto Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor TPMS Relearn Reset Activation Tool OEC-T5 for GM Series Vehicle

I'll have it Wed..

I had not heard of it before either, but this is from my FSM, hopefully the pics are good enough to read.
I may need to rotate them and repost...

Tried a relearn tool and get nothing, still cannot get it to say it is in relearn mode, or reset it so they work.
I am starting to think these tires never had the sensors put in them.
How do I find out which new ones have the right frequency for my car?
Just let a tire place do them? I'd kind of rather buy the sensors and have a place install them.

Just let the tire place do them. Then if anything ends up wrong you can point and cry.

If you bring your own and one is defective or something, you'll be stuck incomplete and have to come back with the replacement . . . after whatever RMA process for the defective one.

I wish I could remember back when I got the car, shortly after I swear I remember the tire inflation warning on the DIC, and I remember filling tires to 32psi and resetting it, at least I faintly remember that.
If it worked before then the sensors should be in the tires, do they have replaceable batteries in them?
Or when they die they are just dead and need replacing?

I was already looking at a good 750.00 already for the Pirelli'* I want to replace my current ones with.

I believe they're the battery-powered ones that are part of the stem. The batteries in these are sealed in, no replacing. Normal procedure is to just put some new sensors in. Besides, just like you'd put new valve stems in after the old ones are old, these valve stems are little different . . . except for happening to have an expensive TPMS sensor attached.

The thing that still gets me is why won't the DIC even try to enter reset mode, it should not have to even know sensors are installed, unless it can read the frequency coming off of one, and if none are functioning or installed it cannot enter reset mode, shrugs..
