Unhappy Mean sounding noise

2002 Suburban 5.3 Flex, I have an intermittent sound after start up that quite loud, Almost sounds like the starter is trying to engage, not sure where to start looking.

Does it do it more than once on the same start?

Yes it can be a a few seconds to a few minutes after startup, usually it only happens once but sends a chill through you.

I would throw a new relay in it and see if it corrects.

New relay should have no effect as it is only a power switch to give more juice to the solenoid. I did just for giggles swap the three existing around, no effect.
Need to do more poking around!

Pretty sure! Don't know of anything that sounds quite that thrilling. I have been poking around trying to find what could possibly cause it. Kind of drawing a blank, what else could supply current to the starter. I know it will wipe the ring gear if done to many times. Had to pull my boat motor years back to swap on a new ring gear, the bendix gear is a lot harder then the ring gear.

I'd examine the wire for any chaffing and short to power.

It could be the Bendix not retracting. Maybe the spring is broken. A defective relay could also cause it if it is gummed up and on the edge of sending power.
