Question 2004 montana radio blank

Bumping Old Threads
If a thread/post is more than say 6 months old, we would prefer that you not reply to that thread, but instead make an new thread with a link pointing to the old one. Most of the time, the OP'* haven't been on in years and more than likely they won't respond.
This is also called Necro bumping.
Necro bumped from - https://www.gmforum.com/pontiac-168/...supply-305777/
My apologies.

Rain has stopped now LOL!

2004 pontiac montana 3.4 FWD 157k miles owned about 4 months

Everything about radio works (all buttons, etc, I could even set a couple hotkeys) except display is dead. (blank, nothing, nota)

Read something about replacing a bulb in radio (don’tknow where) but didn't follow it out.

Anyone have any clues lease?

Thanks.

Thanks that would be a very good solution except for one small detail - fixed income and very little of it at that.
i.e. can’t afford to.

Thanks.

Yes I think it is exactly as your image with the exception it doesn't look nearly that good mine has full row of switches and little pocket is down below the drink holder..
I got these images below and I thought the red lights and buttons would show up very well in the dark but they all came out blurry like the one shown.
Everything seems to work (except the display) AFAIK even the alarm system and XM and haven't checked out the CD player yet.
Thanks for any help or guidance.

XM and theftlock, etc works.

All the buttons on the wheel seem to work AFAIK. (kinda hard to tell some of it.

This was about the best image I could get in the dark

I bet something got shaken apart on the circuit board that runs the display. Someone good with electronics might be able to find it and resolder. That might be a long shot on a radio designed so recently. Very often with these little digital displays it is silly stuff that kills them like a bad diode or a fractured solder point.

@CathedralCub
Thanks for the advice - I was hoping it might be something I could remedy but but oh well.

I got a clock that I added and got my favorite channel on the #1 preset so I can live with it OK.

Thanks again.

No prob. You might want to keep an eye out for a junkyard unit nearby for cheap (although it might cost you a bit of labor getting a dealership to reprogram it for your car) . . . or swap to an aftermarket unit if you want.
