Default Security light

I have a 94 Oldsmobile 88 royale 3.8l v6 and the security light is on. The car starts fine and runs but that light being on really bothers me. Does anyone know how to get it to shut off?

Sounds like the wiring for the light has a short. Need to get your scan tool and possibly a DVOM to figure it out.
I have the info for your vehicle if you want to try and tackle this.

I'm having the exact same issue with my '96 88. I bought it recently, got two keys with it and no matter which key I'm using, the SECURITY dash light goes on, but the car runs just fine. I understand the light has something to do with the programming of the chip in the key.

I just went out and double checked the situation. Turned the key to the on position, the security light came on solid and stayed on (I think I waited 10 or so seconds). Then I put my scan tool on it and didn't find any stored codes.

Would it be worth taking it to a dealer and having them reprogram the keys? What does that involve?
