Default LIM and UIM gasket replace

I decided to change out these gaskets on my 1994 LeSabre while I was getting ready to change the TPS. Noticed some oil/water leakage under the throttle body, not a lot but some
Got everything apart this afternoon, cleaned everything good so I could inspect the UIM. To my surprise it looks perfect, no damage around the coolant ports at all. So, my plans as of now will be new gaskets and put it back together. Any thoughts on this?
I've used Fel Pro gaskets for many years with good results, any opinions on these versus GM gaskets?

Thanks
Joel

Thankfully Series 1 isn't as hard on gaskets as the Series 2 is. I believe I also used Felpro and haven't had issues just yet.

To be honest, I don't think I ever recall seeing ANY LIM gasket failures on Series 1. They always fall in the "probably should be replaced while I am in here" category, mine included.

Can you please post pics of the underside of the UIM you pulled off? I wanna see it...

And fair warning, I am of the "replace it" mindset, but I think a lot of it has to do with where I live. Dryrot is king around here, and if I am going to invest the labor that I have to get a plastic engine off of the top of my engine that has been sitting there for over 20 years, I am going to put a new one on.

I'm at the bottom of the food chain when it involves posting pictures. I really need to get my son to show me how. I'll snap some pictures and try to post.

Yea, I'm with you 100% on replacing parts. I've spent a lot of money over the years on cars. But with the quality of replacement parts now, sometimes that old part is better than a new one.

But I do intend to look it over again with my extra powerful reading glasses!

I would be guessing the throttle body gasket might have been leaking....

I had the LIM leak on a series 1 '88 Delta 88, but never the UIM though I suppose it was replaced at the same time (I didn't DIY). That was early on, say within 6 years of new.

On my ''97 Lesabre the UIM failed in the usual way, around the EGR port, and I went ahead and replaced the LIM while I was at it.

I made a mistake and bought a Doorman for the UIM (plastic) manifoldl itself as a kit including the gasket, should have returned it because the gasket frame was a terrible fit, but managed to melt/deform the gasket frame center spacer strips to make it work... was a few millimeters too wide or narrow, probably too wide but can't recall for certain at the moment.

I did use Felpro for the LIM gasket and so far so good, but I've barely put any miles on that vehicle since the repair was done... still sitting at about 48K original mi.

Anyway, I would definitely replace the UIM. It may look fine, not leak at all, but get brittle then all of a sudden w/o warning your engine is hydrolocked and maybe ruined. I got lucky, mine was just idling in the driveway when it happened.

Say, I haven't been around this forum in a while, can we not edit posts?

I just wanted to add that part of the benefit of the replacement UIM kit is the new metal pipe fitting with smaller diameter so there'* more of an air gap between it and the plastic to keep it cooler.

It'* a feature that was disabled some time ago as a safeguard to protect the posts on the forum from being tampered with down the line.

Just to clarify, the information I shared is only applicable to the 1993-1995 L27 engines. The LN3 and L36 are different animals.

Well, I got my camera out and tried to take some pictures of the LIM. Screwed with that for about an hour and gave up, looks like that 20 yr old camera finally died.

I got everything back together yesterday, started right up and no leaks or problems. Never did really see a major problem with any gaskets, but they're all new now! I actually suspect the gasket on that block off plate at the end of the LIM under the throttle body. Almost looked like a "witness" trail" in that area.

New TPS corrected the DIC fault. All is good.

I have part # for that heater pipe o-ring, and gasket # for that block off plate if anybody needs them.
