Default Chevy Tahoe

I am getting strong gas smell possibly off of fresh air duct going to intake. Changed purge valve still having problem. All gas lines are new no gas leak chased every line back to tank. I have not a clue what this is. Kind of hard starting where it used to start with bump of key now rolling over several times before starting. No check engine codes what'* so ever.

What year?

Why are all the gas lines new? Plastic or steel or hose?

Fresh air duct and intake are two entirely different things. One provides air circulation to the passenger compartment, the other provides air to the combustion chambers. If it is coming in the fresh air duct I would suspect a leak at the top of the engine. Inspect the fuel rails, fuel line connectors to the fuel rails, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, etc. Use a flashlight, not a barbeque lighter, to see what is going on. If it is coming from the intake, check the fuel pressure regulator.

If your dad recently replaced the fuel lines, my main suspect is the connections from the fuel lines to the fuel rails.

Any signs of gas dripping on the road when parked for a while?

2002 5.7l 350 with the spider injectors. He could have a leaking poppet valve after the engine shuts off and the fuel pressure slowly bleeds off into one of the cylinders...thus causing the long hard starts and smell.
