Hi! I have a similar problem with my 2002 Bonneville w/ 168,600 miles. I experienced shaking on right front end (knew I needed a tire). Take it into Sears they say right outer tire rod, hub bearing assembly, 2 tires & alignment needed =about $900. Get the work done - 1st day driving it after work completed -I accelerating & reach about 55 mph and start feeling front right end shaking (not like before, but shouldn't be after work). Take it back for them to recheck it...now they are trying to say OH, Left sway bar link, cv leaking and when I wasn't going with that they took off tires, etc noting the Check Engine Light on and could be that (well I had oil changed too along with the filter), etc. = another about $1k. My response, YOU HAVE LOST YOUR D MIND! So they came back talking about air flow filter is the issue from the engine ($201 + $30 to install). STILL NOT HAPPENING! Any advice of what it could be because I feel SEARS is trying to rip me off and other work is questionable.

If you go into a shop for a repair, and the repair they quote is really something you can't afford, then if it'* a shop that you have no experience with, GET A SECOND OPINION....

You get that amount of work done, you road test it right away, and you immediately bring it right back....Doesn't Sears road test their work? If they did, who was the idiot who did the road test?

I could have sworn you said they did an alignment! You should have reemed the SM a new one, if this is the kind of help he has and that does not do a thorough front end check BEFORE doing the work....

They told you a check engine light caused a vibration at 55? It'* guys like this that give us a bad name....

$201 for an "air flow filter"? Did they even write down on the repair order what the code for the CE light was? Obviously not.....

I've always worked for GM dealerships......yes there are good ones and bad ones, though I must be lucky because the 3 in our area were pretty good.....Yes, the labor rate may be a little higher than other shops, but competition is so fierce, that a dealership today, can't afford bad publicity.....and you can complain to GM.....

I'm sure there are good techs at Sears....but they sound like they were there to sell, not diagnose...

ive had good and bad experiences with dealers and alot of bad commercially owned shops. you never know which its going to be. i have had the best experiences going to bigger independently owned shops, the ones with 4 or 5 or more bays and employees, you know they get alot of repeat business around here if they need that many people since this area is pretty rural.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to read about the shaking in your Bonneville.

Unfortunately, your problem is common across all GM vehicles with the platform your Bonneville is on. The fix is a "art", not a science. Not one item has solved this problem for thousand and Pontiac and Cadillac owners that have experienced the same issue and often trade in their vehicle as the problem would go unresolved.

I also had (have) the problem, and have taken many actions to try to resolve. I have replaced tires, bushings, struts, tie rods, ball joints, and other actions. The tires had the biggest impact, but at the end of the day the problem of shaking between 55-70 mph is still happening. It is much less than it was, and happens more on likely on specific roads.

I would be cautious using a repair shop that states they can fix the problem. I would be more inclined to use a repair shop that stated the problem is dynamic, and these parts on your vehicle may reduce or resolve the problem.
