Default Do I need a new key fob?

The remote key fob on my Monte Carlo works, but I can only get it to work when I about 5 feet or closer to the car. I thought it might have been the battery, so I put a new one in, but that didn't help. I also used the learn remote key from the DIC, but that also didn't help. Would a new fob help?

If you have tried to clean the board contacts and the rubber contacts with alcohol, then give this a try...

I might have to try that with mine too. Seems like I have to press awfully hard before the car responds to it

Cleaning it with alcohol seemed to help. Thanks, I would have never thought of that.

I may have to try this too. My panic button seems to work when I press it to turn it on, but it takes a lot of effort and attempts to turn it back off..

My dictionary needs updating ONCE in awhile...

panacea

pan·a·ce·a

[pan-uh-see-uh] Show IPA
noun 1. a remedy for all disease or ills; cure-all.

2. an answer or solution for all problems or difficulties: His economic philosophy is a good one, but he tries to use it as a panacea.

Just about all the ones that I have had get like this over time. Mike has a good idea to use alcohol. Contact cleaner also works good. I usually disassemble mine and scrub with a spray cleaner like simple green and a tooth brush. Rinse the assembly real well with water and use a hair drier to remove all moisture. I work for a circuit board company and we wash most of our boards. Just make sure it is completely dry before you install the battery (new one). Never use sandpaper or steel wool.
