Continued from here

I put the key in so I could play the cd player while I was working on it and now the darn key is stuck in the ignition. It seems to be in park all the way and I did remove the SIR fuse. I wanted to disconnect the battery but I only have the one key. Any ideas?

Try turning the steering wheel hard in each direction as you try to remove the key.

I figured the battery would run down while I was working so I took the stereo out. It was really easy since the interior is stripped out for cleaning. Got home and the battery was dead anyways, probably from the computer. Luckily it must have an anti-lockout feature that unlocked all the doors before it went completely dead. Otherwise I would have been screwed since my only key was stuck in the ignition.

Really wanted it locked up, so I popped out the entire key cylinder last night. That was easy, just poke a little screw driver in the square opening on the cylinder, turn the key and pull. Today I figured out what is causing the problem, the shifter interlock cable thingy. I kinda thought it was one of the cables since I messed with them while removing the center console.

Here it is, I popped the clip out and pushed on the spring.

Thanks for making a thread, I am new here and I can't edit my posts yet, otherwise I would have deleted that part...

No problem. We were all new once. Good luck getting this permanently fixed.

Fixed the problem. Just pushed in on the spring end until it reached the point of releasing the key. Held it in place and then I re-inserted the plastic clip, which locked the cable into position. Very easy to fix and adjust. It came out of adjustment due to me attempting to remove the cable from the shifter.
