HELP! Fuel pump
Trying to replace the sensor assembly (the "fingers") on my fuel pump so the gauge reads correctly. I cannot, for the life of me, remove that retaining ring. Does anyone have suggestions?
I've PB-Blastered the life out of the thing, so much there'* a standing pool of lubricant. Despite my repeated efforts with a hammer and flat blade screwdriver around all sides, I can't get it to budge. It'* rusted pretty good (??), even though I'm hardly in the salt belt.

Others will likely chime in shortly with tips specific to your model year bonny.
I have had the same issue on other GM tanks/ fuel pumps. I had to soak it overnight, wipe away the excess pool of pb blaster, pb blast again, etc. Then I did the hammer/ chisel routine, making sure I evenly hit the ring around the entire assembly. Finally it cleanly broke free. When I reassembled I used a lite coat of never seize in the event I had to replace the pump again at a future time.

Thanks for the response. I FINALLY got the darned thing off, it took a 1/2" chisel and a BMF hammer, but finally it moved. I have no idea why that ring is rusted so bad; roads are salted on occasion, but iit'* not like I live in northern Michigan...

Ive had occurances where ive had to bend/twist break them off but thats only if absolutely necessary make sure you clean that area up real well or youll have a hard time putting one back on

Sorry this response is after you got it off, but the secret to getting that ring off is to tap it at 3 or 4 locations around the diameter. Tapping it in one spot will not move it.
