Problems with start and idle.
My car has just over 80,000 miles on it. Just recently, when I would start it, the RPMs would drop to about 200 then go up to 1300, then back down to 400 then up 1100, then it would settle in at a regular idle of 800-900 rpm. Or, it would be difficult to start. Even more recently, on one occassion, the rpm'* dropped while waiting at a stop light. Can someone help me out with this? My friend has been telling me to come to this site for years, so I figured I'd finally give it a shot.

Is your SES light on to retrieve a code.My car would stall if it went below 400rpm.Could be vacuum leak. When was last time you changed plugs and wires. Also could try cleaning IAC and throttle body and EGR.When mine did this it was the maf sensor but it would pull a code.
There are many causes of you problem some of which include, vacuum leaks, water in the fuel, a faulty TPS, for starters. Clogged injectors are also possible.
get it scanned for codes and see if anything comes up.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the quick response. We'll run through the suggestions and figure it out...FYI, no service engine light came on...scanned it anyway because a scanner was nearby...thanks.
So we did basic things for about an hour one night. We cleaned the TB somewhat, we seafoamed it, and change his air filter not really much more didnt help either but needed to be done nonetheless, this weekend I am taking the 95 sc "SE" and his 01 SE to the shop on base so we can work on Them. We will be doing the basic tune-up stuff to his(he has dex cool in it also)
and doing alot on my 95 to get it rolling better. BTW started back up without a problem last night after 2 months of sitting.
