Default Werid sound coming from back of car on passenger side??

Hey guys, Well I've been noticing a real weird sound my car makes only wen its ON but not running the motor. ( like eletric works but engine isn't running ) It makes a weird sound like a antenna is trying to come out but is jammed ( like some cars with antennas that will come out when you turn the radio on ) I don't know what it is, and I am hoping you guys do..

my 02 has that sound too. but it also does it now and again when the car is running too. Almost like the fuel pump keeps kicking in. I know the fuel pump and air comp. are in the same area. Maybe it'* one of those.

I would start the car and get like three friends to get into the back seat and see if you hear it again. I would guess its the air pump for the rear shocks. I kept hearing my pump last winter cause I had a spare tire area that was a solid block of ice. The truck had been leaking water for some time. I fixed it the southern way and used a center punch to put several holes in the floor of the spare tire area.- Ron

That sound you hear is infact the air pump trying to level out the car, or to raise the pressure in the shock if the car has been sitting for a long peroid of time. Nothing to be worried about all of our cars do it. If you do believe that it is your fuel pump, lay down in your trunk pull back the carpet on the top right side and have a friend cycle the key.

Any time the key is first turned on, after about 20 seconds the compressor will turn on to test and pressurize the system. It will run for maybe about 5 seconds. It will do this each time it is turned on regardless of how long or short of time the key is off. The compressor is in the rear fender well on the passenger side.

I haven't noticed it lately but a couple weeks ago, while driving that sound would come on every 10 mins.
