I have noticed that every so often the rear wheel on the drivers side makes a clicking sounds just before the car comes to a complete stop. Fronts were done a year ago and the rears two years ago. I have not cleaned the brakes since winter, so Im wondering if there is just a build up of brake dust and salt or is this another problem?

Clicking in the rear brake is something to look into.
Remove the wheel and drum and inspect. Also check the shoe adjustment, sometimes the adjusters don't work properly.

I'm going to look at it tomorrow. It only seems to make the sound at low speeds. what am I looking for in the shoes? can this be caused by winter grime? or does it need to be re-alinged?

It could be a number of things.
Shoes out of adjustment.
Drum needs turning.
Buildup of dust.
Spring unhooked.
I have even seen loose rivets on the shoes.

This helps a lot. I've got do do some erands, but I raise her up remove the wheel and see what I can find.......
I'll take some pics too- hopefully its nothing too serious.

Well as it turned out-
the drum was just really dirty. Cleaned it up, and no squeek, no more click.

No problem, glad it worked out to be something simple.
Sometimes when the drums get dirty its from a small leak in the rear wheel cylinders which makes the dust tacky.
