Shortly efter the new owner obtained the car it started draining the battery if the car sat for 24 hrs. If fuse # 9c (the fuse with the radio) is pulled it will not drain the battery.
He replaced the radio and the amp, but the problem still exists.
I never had the problem as the car only sat for 3 days straight when I owned it and it started right up.
I feel real bad because both the 99 SSEi and the 98 SSE his sister bought from me are both doing it. Both have replaced their batteries (even though I had put new ones in each shortly before selling each).
If anyone with a 98/99 Factory service manual could look up all the details on fuse 9C and let me know what it says about it (and if it says anything about draining batteries) I/we would greatly appreciate your help.

P.*. The ground wire (from negative battery terminal to frame rail ground stud has no sleeve on it due to a 4G stereo power wire shorting out on the frame rail ground stud and starting on fire). THis was nly on the 99 SSEi though.

Ok.. let me take a stab at it. Don't all bonnies 96-97 and up have rundown protection built in?

If so then something is directly hooked to the battery and draining it. The fact that you never had a problem but once they get the cars there'* a problem bothers me. Did they add alarms or anything like that? If so they probably had both done by the same place and the same hook up was used.

There'* no logical reason for a draw in the car if nothing was changed though. Something is using power..at a pretty good rate. You simply need to isolate what is using power.

Let'* narrow it down:
It'* not ELC..
It shouldn't be a light anywhere..those should automatically turn off.
It'* not the headlights..
It'* not the interior lights
It'* not the radio if wired properly.
Are there amps in the car?

Both cars have completely stock electrical systems/stereo'*, with the exception of the stock non-eq cd decks being swapped for 7-band units.

Hmmm. Where is the rundown protection controller located? Part of the PCM or seperate? Is it possible that that is their problem?

Sorry..Randy has the manual for electrical. I would be asking as you probably have, why didn't this ever happen to you however it now happens to them. It is odd.

9C? Is it having a power antenna problem? If it'* trying to lower an antenna that'* already down, that could be part of it. Have you tried disconnecting the harness for the stereo to determine if it'* the HU or the wiring?

Anybody have a diagram of the wiring for this fuse, what components run off of it, etc...?

Also, what are the odds that the climate control module is at fault?
So far we have swapped the radio, Bose Amp, the temperature controller (the visible unit), power antenna (not on the same fuse) and it'* still draining.

So far what we can tell is when that fuse (9C) is pulled the fuel guage, boost guage, temp guage, oil pressure guage, radio, and climate control all go off.

When the fuse is put in, with the key off, there is a slight whining sound from the front speakers sometimes.

Any chance a speaker might be toasted and the wires from the terminal to the cone on the speaker is crossed/shorting?

With the radio off, any shorts in the speaker wires are null. Look elsewhere.
