Default Dumb air box question

Call me stupid, but what does "gutted airbox" mean? Seen it posted as a mod for a lot of members, I assume it'* one of those simple tricks everyone knows about but me.

there are baffles in the air box, just cut them out and then cut a bigger hole in the front of the box.

edit: here is a picture of a gutted one

baffle pics coming!!!

Fresh pics..
These are the airbox guts from NA (left) and SC (right)

Actual boxes are identical in size and shape. However the baffling is different. Also NA has baffles in the front of the box as well.
