Default Wave plate warranty replacement

Apparently there was a recall on the wave plate on the 2008 vue that I have, I never got any notification. Long story short, my transmission stopped working. Took into the GM dealership I bought it from and they said it'* covered under the warranty and now I have a $1800 bill for it to be replaced. Anyone else experience anything like this? I would assume that if the part had been recalled and is considered to be under warranty GM should pay all of the expenses...

I am not finding any recalls on this one unfortunately.

There is one recall transmission related, but it is a very limited number of vehicles affected, and it is not for the wave plates:

What exact warranty is covering it, what exactly is the warranty covering, and what is not being covered and why? I was able to find mention of a TSB that addresses the problem and how to fix it, but that is all it really is. It'* not an actual recall
