My keyring loop on my fob for our 2007 Outlook broke. I could just buy a new case (and batteries while I'm at it), however:

Is it easy to turn on the remote-start feature for this car? . . . or is it something that requires changing modules or something. It currently has the lock/unlock/panic fob and it also knows how to start itself (as in you can blip the "start" position of the ignition switch and it takes care of engaging and releasing the starter). I don't know this side of it well, but it seems like something that could just be enabled and then we change fobs.

I know you can do this (enable feature, buy fobs, enjoy) on a bunch of different Fords, just don't know what it takes in GM.

I asked a service writer at the local GMC/Buick dealer about it, and first he gave me a confused look, then recommended Car Toys because if GM did it then they'd have to change out the fuse block and wiring.

Change the fuse block and wiring of the car just to add a feature it could have been sold with? I think he doesn't quite know what he'* talking about with that one.

Thoughts?

From what I read, the words "if equipped" keep popping up.......

There are some vehicles that can have the options programmed "on".....I don't think this is one of them....

The basic parts are a transmitter with remote start built in, RCDLR(remote control door lock receiver), BCM, and ECM.......I am sure the ECM can be reprogrammed, but not sure on the BCM, or if a different RCDLR is needed....

I eventually found the RPO codes for your vehicle.....if you have AP8 you are out of luck......you need AP3, for remote start.....

You need to find your SPID label....sometime it'* located in your glove compartment or on the back cover of your tool compartment........

Apparently, AP3 means it already comes with those remotes......AP8 is apparently remote start ready, just need the remotes.....

The only caveat is, a dealership is going to have to program those remotes.......what I don't know is, is if you can still program your old remotes? What I mean is, if you buy two new remotes, and when they program them, it wipes out the programming for the other remotes you have......

However, I believe they can program up to 8 fobs per vehicle......when they program them, they clear all learned transmitters(thus your old ones).....then they program the new transmitters plus your old ones....I don't know if they can mix and match fobs when they program them to the RCDLR..........you might want the old remotes programmed, in case you lose/damage the new ones.....

But I think only a dealer can program them....YOU MAY HAVE LUCKED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

It'* fine if I can't use the old remotes. They are starting to lose range a bit, a sure sign of batteries getting tired. They're well-beaten anyways, and one of them has a broken keyring loop.

That'* fine too, now I just need to find a dealer that will do it.

I don't remember the "RELEARN REMOTE" display on the DIC, but it may be something I've scooted past a bunch of times without giving it much thought. I'll look again next time I see it.

Let'* say it does have this ability, do you think I'd still have to get the dealer to turn on the feature in the first place?

What scan tool are they referencing here?
